It Just Needs To Be Consistent

Two years ago I went from running, Soul Cycle, and yoga every week to halting all efforts due to an injury. Like most injuries, this one caught me completely off guard, and the recovery period was much longer than I anticipated. I felt frustrated from being regularly active, to barely being able to move.

I’ve seen similar situations with clients who hire me to turn their brand’s marketing around for the better. They’ve had an injury, except theirs was in the form of either a key member of the team leaving, not having a steady strategy in place for their initiatives, or racing to meet financial goals and customer acquisition. They become unsure of what next steps to take to get back on track.

When I finally made the decision that I wasn’t going to let my injury get the best of me, I switched to a new physical therapist who listened to my concerns, my areas of pain, and worked around my needs and limitations to get me going. He said I couldn’t pick up running again without first getting back into walking (no pun intended). I literally had to start by consistently walking every day. 10 minutes, 12 minutes, 15 minutes, until I could get up to 30 minutes every day, and then I could add in running.

It doesn’t need to be fast, it just needs to be consistent.

The key to making this regimen work for me is in what he said next. “You don’t have to be fast, it just needs to be consistent.” Meaning, I could take the walk at whatever pace worked for me, as long as I was walking every day.

This holds true for my clients. Your brand marketing doesn’t need to be a rush to get acquisitions, or get your brand out there. The best way to reach your goals is by being consistent. Be consistent in your message, in what you stand for as a brand, and in where your customers see you.

Just like my physical therapist did for me, I always listen to what challenges my clients are facing, so the strategy recommendations I make won’t lead to further injury, just a smooth recovery and long-term success.

The next time you’re facing a deadline to spend every dollar in your budget, or rush to make a campaign because other brands are doing it, just remember, it doesn’t have to be fast, it just has to be consistent.

At Summer Monday, we’re here to help. Get in touch to learn more about how we can create an impactful strategy that moves your brand forward, at a pace, budget, and consistency that works for you.
